Structural and Civil Engineering for Portland-Area Projects
Johnson Broderick Engineering is a Eugene firm, and Portland is a market we’d like to work in more. We’re not going to pretend to be a Portland office. What we can offer a Portland client is 25 years of structural and civil engineering, a small team you can reach by phone, and a way of working that doesn’t depend on being down the street. If you need a structural engineer for Portland work, here is how that looks.
Most of our Portland-area work has been tower and rooftop antenna engineering, along with steel stair design for Clackamas Community College and for schools in Portland and Hillsboro.

Who we'd be a good fit for
- Developers and business owners planning new commercial buildings, where civil site development and structural design need to come from one firm. In Washington we delivered the full design for a new Bi-Mart store in Elma, then ran the sealed bid process for the owner.
- Architects looking for an engineer of record who models in Revit and coordinates cleanly with the design team.
- Tower developers building new sites that need civil, land use and structural work together. See Tower & Telecom Engineering.
- Owners of existing buildings facing seismic upgrades, balcony replacement or egress problems.
How it works at a distance
Design, calculations, drawings and permit administration are done remotely, with regular updates and milestone dates. We travel for site visits when a project needs them — depending on distance and scope, that may add to the cost of those visits, and we’ll show it in the fee estimate up front. We’re licensed in Oregon and Washington, which covers both sides of the Columbia, and in California.
One thing we can’t do: stamp plans someone else prepared. Oregon law doesn’t allow it, so if you need an engineer’s seal we generally produce the documents ourselves.
